Moss beats Middleton in Kate popularity stakes

With two weeks to go before the royal wedding, a poll carried out among young Londoners shows the majority would rather attend supermodel Kate Moss's wedding reception in July than Kate Middleton's. Fifty-two per cent voted for a Moss invite to 48 per cent for an embossed Middleton invitation.

The poll was carried out by CitySocialising. It also revealed an even split between those who plan to watch the royal wedding on TV and those who don't: 39 per cent watchers against 38 per cent non-watchers.

Sanchita Saha, founder of CitySocialising, told the Press Association: "When it comes down to it, us Brits are torn between our ingrained sense of nationalism and our obsession with celebrity."

Perhaps those angling for an invitation when Moss ties the knot with the Kills guitarist Jamie Hince knew something the rest of us didn't until now - which is that the tension could be heightened by Hince's decision to ask his bandmate Alison Mosshart to be his 'best man'.

Although Hince has always denied that he and Mosshart were ever lovers, many in their circle say that Kate and Alison have never hit it off.

According to a Daily Mirror source, "Jamie and Alison have done everything together for 10 years, so he doesn't see why he should have to pick a bloke to stand beside him.

"Kate and Alison didn't used to see eye to eye but recently, Kate has extended an olive branch to her, and she's confident enough about their relationship to know that there is nothing sexual between them.

"When she found out Jamie had asked Alison to be his 'best man' she gave her a huge hug and said she was happy for her to do it."

Moss's wedding is on July 2. That's assuming Moss has recovered in time from her hen night which will not be the "quiet affair" favoured by Kate Middleton but a party during the Isle of Wight festival on the weekend of June 10-12. ·
