Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has a new pet project - a puppy called Beast, who made his internet debut on the social networking site this weekend.

The dog is a Puli - a type of Hungarian sheepdog - and apparently has the ability to use a computer and type. Soon after joining the Zuckerberg/Chan clan the pup had signed up to Facebook and posted his first status update, which read: "Now living in my new home in Palo Alto with Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan."

The cuddly ball of white fluff also penned a biography announcing: "I was born in Grants Pass, Oregon and now I live in Palo Alto with Mark and Cilla. I am extremely cute." He listed his interests as "cuddling, loving and eating".

Proof that Beast is genuine - and cute - came in a series of pictures that show Zuckerberg and Chan playing with the puppy, which were posted on the site.

Within a few hours of Beast's arrival on Facebook his page had well over 1,000 fans.

But Beast may not have the Palo Alto apartment to himself for too long as earlier this year Zuckerberg's sister Arielle posted a blog in which she said that her brother was on the hunt for "ridiculous looking breeds" of dog and wanted both a Puli and a similarly shaggy-looking dog called a Komondor.

Beast may also have had a lucky escape as Zuckerberg's sister had also suggested that he would name his dog Snooki, after a character from reality TV show Jersey Shore, or Boba Fett, in tribute to the Star Wars bounty hunter.

Both the Puli and the Komondor breeds hail from Hungary and are herding and guard dogs. Both breeds have coats that look like dreadlocks, although it seems Beast is so young that his has yet to grow ringlets.

Zuckerberg's choice of breed has been well received by Hungarian users of Facebook, who have visited Beast's Facebook page to voice their approval. ·
