The Barbadian-born pop star Rihanna has reportedly agreed to lift the restraining order against her former boyfriend Chris Brown ahead of Sunday's Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, at which both will be appearing.

It was on the eve of the 2009 Grammys that Rihanna was assaulted by Brown, as a result of which the couple broke up and he was ordered not to come within 100 yards of her and placed on probation for five years.

Rihanna is understood to have agreed to a downgrading of the restraining order to level one, which means he can contact here as long as he doesn't threaten her in any way.

This should make any meeting at the Grammys a little less awkward.

Both are nominated for awards on Sunday. Her collaboration with Eminem on Love the Way You Lie is up for five Grammys, including song the year. Brown is nominated for three awards, including best contemporary R&B album, for Graffiti.

Two days afterthe Grammys, Rihanna is due in London where she is promising to give her "raunchiest show yet" according to the Metro newspaper of her new song S&M, with its lyrics 'Sticks and stones may break my bones but chains and whips excite me'.

Last month, her single What's My Name? reached Number One in the UK chart - making her the first female solo artist in history to have a number one single in Britain in five consecutive years. ·
