Presenter admits the show he hosts with Christine Bleakley is a disaster

Potato-headed presenter Adrian Chiles has admitted he was "completely fucking wrong" about the show he and Christine Bleakley left the BBC to front at ITV, Daybreak. And the former One Show host says the show's first episode was "a crock of shite".

Chiles, who said one reviewer dubbed him the "ugliest person that’s ever presented a programme", was told last month that the doomed breakfast show’s viewing figures had slumped to just 500,000.

In a startlingly frank interview, he told the Guardian: “Normally I'm pessimistic about absolutely everything. But God forgive me my arrogance, I tried being positive with this, because I felt in my water that it was going to be a storming immediate runaway success."

He added: "I was absolutely sure. And I was completely fucking wrong."

Speaking about the first broadcast of the new show on September 6 this year, Chiles said: "I was so nervous about it, I was just glad there were no blazing errors. We thought it was OK.

"And then we woke up in the morning and found out that, far from being OK, it was actually one of the biggest crocks of shite anyone had seen in years."

Critics have accused Chiles of being Eeyore-ish on screen, but he told the paper if he seems grumpy every morning it’s probably because he is: "I get in the car at five past four, I say hello to the driver, he says hello to me. We both say how knackered we are, and then I read the papers.

"And I read that I'm the ugliest man that's ever presented a programme, I read that my close friend and co-presenter Christine is a social-climbing slag, and that the programme is the worst thing anyone's seen, and it's tanking, and it's a complete failure.

"I've read all that by the time I've gone round the Hogarth roundabout, so my day bottoms out at 4.15am. And then people say the problem is I'm grumpy.

"Well, a) I'm grumpy for a reason; and b) if you have got your arse in your hands, is there anything worse than somebody telling you to cheer up?"

"Christine is a social-climbing slag".

With pro footballer. What next...an estate agent?

I've never watched any Breakfast TV and after reading Adrian Chiles' grumpy and foul-mouthed moan I certainly have no wish to do so. You are being extremely well-paid (I would say grossly over-paid) for presenting this programme and perhaps you should reflect that if the ratings are as poor as you say the fault might lie with you and your equally over-paid co-presenter. Think yourself lucky, stop whinging and grow up.

He's right of course!

absolutely terrible analysis. This kind of thing I expect from tabloids but Firstpost? He didn't admit anything. He was talking about the press reaction... such as the tone of this article. Seriously. Raise your game TFP: this makes you look low rent.

Cheer up Adrian. It was not that bad. OK it was not great, but i have seen worse. As for your co-presenter she is a little darling.
