Kerchers angry at Knox supporters’ political ploys
Meredith Kercher’s mother attacks Senator Maria Cantwell for trying to enlist Hillary Clinton in Amanda Knox’s appeal
The mother of murdered British student Meredith Kercher has attacked Amanda Knox's supporters for seeking to enlist US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the Seattle student's appeal battle. At the same time, one Italian newspaper has written: "America is just waiting to send a platoon of Marines over to rescue the poor girl."
Clinton has been brought into the frame by the Democratic senator for Washington state Maria Cantwell who claims the trial showed signs of anti-Americanism. Cantwell has suggested that 22-year-old Knox, who was sentenced on Friday to 26 years for murdering Kercher, did not get a fair trial.
Speaking publicly for the first time since Knox’s trial, Meredith’s mother Arline Kercher (far right, above) said: "Having them say they are looking to lodge an appeal was tough enough - and now this. I just do not know where they are going by getting people in high places involved."
Back at home in Coulsdon, Surrey, Mrs Kercher rejected Cantwell's claims that there had been an anti-American feeling in the Perugia court. "It was just a normal court. Everything seemed to be done fairly. It seems a bit desperate, but the Italian justice system should be the ones to answer whether it was fair or not."
She added that the entire Kercher family had been given a "life sentence" when Meredith was killed by Knox, her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 25, and another man, drifter Rudy Guede, 22, in a drug-fuelled sex murder in November 2007.
Mrs Kercher's comments come as The First Post’s psychoanalyst Coline Covington said that Knox showed signs of being a psychopath.
Meanwhile Senator Cantwell's comments have sparked a furious row in Italy. Prosecutor Giuliano Mignini said: "I am not prepared to take criticism from the Americans on how the prosecution and investigators carried out their work." He added: "The case went before 19 judges at various levels and all found in the prosecution's favour."
In a scathing editorial headlined 'Passport and Justice', the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera accused America of over-reacting, saying: "Here we have rule number one for an American accused of a crime abroad - it doesn't matter if they are innocent or guilty all that counts is their passport... America is just waiting to send a platoon of Marines over to rescue the poor girl."
It added: "This same administration can't close Guantanamo but it can find the time to attack the sentence in Perugia."
Hillary Clinton has said she has not looked into the case but would meet anyone who has concerns. ·

Hi Mrs. Kercher, I am so sorry for everything you and your family have gone through, and for what you've endured. I hate that you're having to relive this horror again.
Please know that in all honestly, I desire 100% pure truth for your daugher, for you, and selfishly, for myself. I don't know you personally, but I have imagined your pain ( I have two girls, one of which just turned 20) and I know that it can't be 1/10 of what it really must be for you. I cringe for you and I wish I could give you, her dear Mommy, a hug. That's all I know to offer. If you and your family could at least know this: not one person I've EVER heard speak or comment , has ever said or thought anything but wonderful things about your daughter, and how she was just an amazing kid, smart, normal, yet exceptional, and with so much to live for (and of course, beautiful). I am angry that they are ding this movie. It's very disrespectful, and the girl they're having portray your daughter is but mud compared to her beauty. My prayer is that Meredith is in heaven with the Lord, looking down, with hopeful anticipation for the truth and for you to be comforted. No more pain, no more sorrow. I, too, pray for you guys as well, for clarity of mind, for strength, courage, and for a supernatural endurance that can only be of God. Please be patient, your life will have some rest soon. Meredith IS glorified, by all. I know that this has become a horrid travesty, but please continue, for Meredith. In the worst of times, there is your opportunity for complete faith in the Lord, who always comes through in the end. Sincerely, Michelle Moore
I'm American, and I'm deeply distressed that other nations are seeing us through extremely one-sided U.S. media coverage. It is not representative of the American people. The Knox family hired a PR firm, and its work is in evidence. Many, many Americans believe that the Italian court acted fairly on the evidence. I am deeply embarrassed that a U.S. Senator took it upon herself to offer such comprehensive criticism of an entire judicial system; her own constituents believe she overreacted, and are publicly protesting her interference. Mrs. Clinton's agreement to meet with anyone with concerns is understood by us to mean that she will not get involved. She has already stated that she saw no mishandling of the case; we had a consular presence throughout the trial. I am sorry we are being viewed through the PR machinery of the Knox family. It is not representative.
This will be right up Hilary Clinton's street, the sort of 'peoples' problems involvement that she will enjoy-protecting Americans from the evil people abroad. I hope that some sensible person will advise her about the folly of such an intervention. She is after all a lawyer. Amanda Knox is as guilty as h....
Peter, I'd like to correct one of your points.
Italy had a a judicial system about 2000 years before America even existed!!
But everyone knows that there is never any justice outside of the USA! Can't be! They're not American, therefore they can have no concept of 'justice'!
Come on America, get out into the real world with the rest of humanity and accept that even Americans can be wrong, and can be correctly convicted!
Surely the prosecutor was anything but "incompetent" if they obtained a conviction? I would not agree that the Italian justice system is a joke. It appears to be thorough and painstaking. I am not sure what point Chris G is trying to make with his last sentence. I've re-read it several times but it makes no sense whatsoever
The case passed through judges and juries. End of Story. Next....
Chris, you're obviously American, and of course no American is ever guilty of murder, right? Other than all the blacks languishing in death row. This is obviously a psychopath, all ther behaviour screams it out; who but a psychopath would smile and turn summersaults after their flatmate and friend had had her throat slashed? Her baehaviour all along has been of a psychopath who 'knew' she was superior to all around her and the whole thing was a joke. A normal person, wrongly accused of such a horrendous crime would be devastated, grieving for their friend and desperately eager to prove their innocence. She reminds me of the vacuous, emotionless faces of the Manson killer gang - also sweet American girlies - and the murders they perpetrated. Or were they inncoent as well? Well, if they'd been tried in Italy I guess they would be in your eyes. Ever thought your attitude is racist? Actually Italy had a judicial system about 2000 years before America. Got anything to sayabout that?
This case reminds me of the Louise Woodward farce. Ms Woodward was charged with killing a baby boy in her care and found guilty. Whereas all people should have the right to be presumed innocent unless/until found guilty, Ms Woodward, it was insisted by the British and American media was innocent regardless of the evidence or facts presented to the court. She was transformed from a nineteen year old woman, into a poor helpless confused little girl, whilst the mother of the baby was castigated for leaving him in the care of another woman whilst continuing her work as a Doctor. These were the same feminist journalists attacking the mother, who for years had insisted that childcare was a 'woman's right'. These professional man haters would herd new mothers into the workplace and sever the umbilical cord whilst they gave birth at their desks if they could, screaming at them that they were independent now and didn't need fathers. When the verdict went against them, they lashed out at the judge in horrific personal atacks, who then backed down and allowed Woodward to walk free after sentencing her to precisely the number of days she had already served in prison. The feminist element within the media wanted to protect Woodward, because it doesn't do to show women killing babies, even though most babies killed are killed by the natural mother according to Home Office records. It also doesn't do to have women raping and murdering other women. It's all part of the big domestic violence scam that has provided so many feminists with a living in politics and the media. Shuts up their male rivals you see. After all, if you were an alien visitor perusing the daily papers for a few months with no access to the real truth, you would swear that 99% of violent crime was committed by males and 99% of males were violent criminals. This has nothing to do with the guilty person being American. It's a gender thing but they won't admit it.
Corriere Della Sera said "This same administration can't close Guantanamo but it can find the time to attack the sentence in Perugia." Think they might have a point.
Ridiculous, she is innocent, italy has a joke of a justice system all the jurors got to read untruths like what is published in this article..... "first post calls her a psychopath", has the first post ever even talked to her????
They got the murder who fled and left the country... end of story, but instead a frame job by an incompetent prosecutor
my prayers are with the knox family.
