Arguably the most famous celebrity home video, 1 Night in Paris, made in 2004, starred hotel heiress Paris Hilton and her boyfriend Rick Salomon. She later launched a £17m case against him but she dropped it in return for a cut of the profits. Partly recorded using a “night vision” camera, Hilton suspends her escapades halfway though to answer her mobile phone, prompting parodies of the footage for years to come.
Despite socialite Kim Kardashian’s best efforts to keep a naughty 39-minute video under wraps, it hit the internet in 2007 and is widely acknowledged as having helped her on the road to stardom. The rights to the film, featuring Kardashian and her boyfriend Ray J, were bought by Vivid Entertainment for $1 million. Kardashian sued the porn production company for ownership of the tape but later dropped the suit and settled for $5m.
Katie Price (aka Jordan) and her former boyfriend Dane Bowers, a singer in boyband Another Level, had a saucy home video stolen from their flat and leaked onto the internet in the late 1990s. It was particularly famous for its final scene which involved Bowers’s toe.
The daughter of two teachers, Abi Titmuss gave up her career as a nurse and became a glamour model after a sex video of her, TV presenter John Leslie and a number of different women made its way onto the internet in 2004. Abi looks into the camera and says: “You can tell I’m an actress, can’t you?” Although she adds: “It’s not quite what I do in film classes.”
Best known for his role as Mini-Me in the Austin Powers films, Troyer filmed a dirty 50-minute video with his girlfriend Ranae Shrider in 2008. She leaked it to TMZ, and Kevin Blatt, the ‘sex tape broker’ responsible for 1 Night in Paris, tried to sell the video.
