Housewives star’s desperate bid to woo writers fails to pan out
STRIKING TV writers picketed the set of Desperate Housewives yesterday were greeted by the series' star Eva Longoria who handed out pizzas to demonstrators. But the actress was reduced to tears by their chants as the writers turned on her, claiming, "No justice, no pizza!"
Julia Louis-Dreyfus was among the strikers as picketing writers attempted to disrupt location filming in the Los Angeles suburbs. Production on at least six TV sitcoms has reportedly been halted because of the strike over royalty payments for TV and film writers.
Longoria distributed pizzas to the pickets during a break in filming, telling reporters that, "It's in the best interest of the entertainment community to begin a meaningful dialogue as soon as possible - no monologue."
The actress also promised to join the demonstrators today, adding: "I absolutely support the writers. Without writers, I wouldn't be who I am."
But she was on the verge of tears as the the strikers grew louder, chanting, "We've got Julia, yes we do! Hey now, Eva, what about you?"
Longoria's pizza pitch backfired her as the writers' chants changed to "This isn't the piece of pie we meant!"
Interior filming of the Desperate Housewives episode took place as scheduled, though the noise outside may require portions of dialogue to be re-recorded. ·
