Big Brother ‘rapist’ wins African series

Film student Richard Bezuidenhout, 24, from Tanzania, won Big Brother Africa yesterday, despite his alleged role in the worldwide reality show's first known incident of live-on-air sexual abuse. The girl he is reckoned to have assaulted, 29-year-old Offuneka Molokwu from Nigeria, came second. As reported on The First Post, the show's producers had to cut the live feed on October 28 after viewers saw Bezuidenhout apparently groping Molokwu after an extended drinking bout that left her and another female contestant vomiting repeatedly before apparently blacking out. The incident was immediately labelled rape by some feminists.

Bezuidenhout, who entered the house 98 days previously a married man, looked to be returning home single. Not just because his wife was shocked by the assault incident – but because he claims to have fallen in love with another contestant, Tatiana Durao, a 26-year-old Angolan.
