Norman to sue ex-wife for talking about affair
Greg Norman, the Australian golfing legend, is heading back to court just weeks after his multi-million dollar divorce from Laura Andrassy. This time, Norman is suing Andrassy for allegedly violating a confidentially agreement that she would not talk publicly about his affair with Chris Evert, the tennis star, which broke up the marriage.
Norman claims Andrassy reneged on the deal when she bitterly described in interviews last month how Evert had befriended her when she came to stay with the Normans at their home in Florida, and then stole her husband. "Chris knows what she did, and so does Greg," said the ex-Mrs Norman. "I'm over it. I'm just not the silent victim."
Andrassy's lawyer, Jack Scarola, said: "This is one of those unfortunate situations where the animosity has escalated." He blames Norman's competitive instinct which makes it "tough to lose".
Norman and Evert, both 52, are rumoured to be planning an early wedding. Evert secured her divorce from former downhill ski champion Andy Mills a year ago. She was previously married to the English tennis player, and now regular Wimbledon commentator, John Lloyd. In the early 1970s she was linked with Jimmy Connors, a romance crowned when they both won the singles titles at Wimbledon in 1974. A wedding was planned for November that year, but the couple called it off. ·
