Roy Jones Jr next in the ring
Fight fans looking for some high-quality action after Floyd Mayweather's demolition job on Ricky Hatton in Las Vegas at the weekend won't have long to wait. Roy Jones Jr, 38, considered along with Mayweather to be one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, is taking on five-times champion Felix 'Tito' Trinidad at the catch weight of 170lb at the legendary New York venue Madison Square Gardens on January 17.
Tickets go on the sale today, with front-row ringside seats at $15,000 a pop – no problem for the celebrity fight fans such as Bruce Willis, Tiger Woods and Gwen Stefani who showed up in Vegas at the weekend to root for Mayweather. Demand for a bout between Trinidad, widely regarded as one of Puerto Rica's greatest ever fighters - no mean feat - and the effortlessly controversial Jones is such that the tickets are likely to sell out within hours.
Jones is sure to give value for their money. His showboating ring antics in the past have included fighting with his hands behind his back - in imitation of the fighting cocks he raises - while dodging his opponent's blows. Outside of the ring, Jones has also enjoyed a career as a rapper and actor. ·
