Are Sarko and Carla a Disneyland item?
The Paris rumour-machine is working overtime once again at suggestions that there is a new woman in the life of French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Pictures of Sarkozy and former supermodel turned singer Carla Bruni on a visit to Disneyland Paris are splashed over this morning's French newspapers. 'Carla Bruni, the president's girlfriend' ran the front-page headline in Le Figaro, above a photograph of the Italian-born brunette, smiling and wearing a fur coat. The cover of Le Parisien showed the couple at Disneyland Paris surrounded by three unidentified children with the caption 'The head of state and his girlfriend Carla'.
Since Sarkozy and his wife of 11 years, Cecilia, split in October the media have played a guessing game over potential partners for the President, the first in modern french history to divorce while in office. TV journalist Laurence Ferrari is currently suing a magazine over allegations that she had started a relationship with Sarkozy. Meanwhile there has been ongoing speculation over the President's relationship with his Justice Minister, Rachida Dati.
Bruni, 38, has also made headlines with her choice of high-profile boyfriends. She has been linked in the past with singers Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton and business tycoon Donald Trump. The singer was recently among the celebrities who turned up at a concert in October to oppose a controversial new immigration law proposed by Sarkozy which introduces optional DNA tests to verify family links.
Meanwhile Cecilia Sarkozy has moved to London, where her choice of schools for her 10-year-old son Louis has caused an outcry. The Lycee Francais Charles de Gaulle in South Kensington, which is attended by Madonna's daughter Lourdes, has sparked a row over cronyism after it granted the Sarkozys' son a place at short notice. ·
