Triumph of the Will

Will Smith braved sub-zero temperatures last night to spend an hour signing autographs and greeting fans before the premiere of his latest film, I Am Legend, in London's Leicester Square. In the sci-fi thriller Smith plays a military scientist who is the last surviving resident of New York City after a virus wipes out the population. Smith, who is married to the Matrix star Jada Pinkett-Smith, told fans how his children are following in the family tradition. His daughter, Willow, co-stars in flashback scenes in the new movie. Son Jaden made his acting debut in The Pursuit of Happyness.

I Am Legend opens in London on Boxing Day. It has already proved a huge hit in the States where it took a record $76.5m (nearly £40m) at the box office in its first three days, making it the most lucrative December opening of all time, beating the $72.6m start for Lord of the Rings: Return of the King in 2003.
