Diana’s ‘Mr Wonderful’ to tell all?
Heart surgeon Hasnat Khan, the former lover of the Princess of Wales who friends have described as the true love of her life, is to talk publicly about their relationship for the first time. Although a date is still to be set, Khan, who had a 23-month affair with Diana, will give testimony at the High Court inquest into her death. It is thought that the man who Diana called "Mr Wonderful" will reveal why they parted and the Princess's state of mind in the run-up to the 1997 Paris car crash.
The 47-year-old surgeon has never revealed the secrets of their romance, refusing huge money deals. Sources have revealed that the coroner, Lord Justice Scott Baker, is "confident" that the surgeon will be heard. Because he now lives in Pakistan he cannot be compelled to be a witness.
Witnesses have already told the inquest that the princess was pining for him when she embarked on her ill-fated affair with Dodi, son of Harrods boss Mohamed Fayed. It is believed that Khan, who started dating Diana in 1995, feels the inquest should be complete in its findings and that the "whole story needs to be told".
Meanwhile, a close friend of Diana told the inquest today that the Princess's relationship with Dodi Fayed finished a few weeks before their fatal car crash. Luxury car dealer Rodney Turner said that in early August 1997 Diana had told him the relationship was finished "which was really a shock for me". He said the princess told him: "Don't fuss, don't fuss. It's all over. I've had a wonderful time." ·
