Lohan film earns nine Razzie nominations
On the eve of today's Oscar nominations came the Golden Raspberry Awards - the annual prizes, better known as the Razzies, for the worst performances and films of the year. Comic actor Eddie Murphy has broken a record with the film Norbit, being nominated for five Razzies, the most any individual has received in a single year since the alternative awards were established in 1981.
The film that garnered the most nominations was the thriller I Know Who Killed Me, starring Lindsay Lohan. It received nine Razzie nominations, including worst film of the year. John Wilson, co-founder of the awards, said that in the worst actress category Lohan had polled more heavily than any actor since Sofia Coppola in The Godfather Part III. He said: "I Know Who Killed Me is the most fabulously brainless movie since Showgirls.”
Vying with Murphy for worst actor award are Adam Sandler in I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, a comedy about firefighters posing as a gay couple (also a hot contender for worst film and for a worst supporting actress award for Jessica Biel), Nicolas Cage in Ghost Rider, Jim Carrey for The Number 23 and Cuba Gooding Jr for Daddy Day Camp.
The awards are handed out on February 23, the day before the Oscars. In 26 years, only two stars have ever been big enough to show up and accept their prize, a three-dollar, spray-painted raspberry. They were comedian Tom Green, awarded for Freddie Got Fingered, and Halle Berry, who won for Catwoman. ·
