Stones spend night together in Leicester Square
Martin Scorsese's documentary about the Rolling Stones, Shine A Light, was celebrated by the band on their home turf last night, with the British premiere in London's Leicester Square. Sir Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood all turned out for what is the fourth such screening, having already seen it at premieres in Berlin, New York and Rome.
Richards admitted last night that he was initially sceptical about the project, his first reponse being: "Forget about it". He changed his mind when he realised Scorsese was directing. "This man makes movies. Once Martin was involved with it I just wanted him to do whatever it is he does." Richards said he was dedicating the night to his grandfather, a violinist who used to busk in Leicester Square.
Mick Jagger appeared to be 'doing a Sarkozy', wearing trainers with a stacked heel to give him a lift next to his 6ft 2in girlfriend L’Wren Scott (pictured). Among the audience were Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, comedian Noel Fielding and model Naomi Campbell. First London reviews appear favourable. "Spinal Tap crossed with Jurassic Park… in a good way" was the headline for a four-star review in the Times. ·
