In brief: Blake’s white elephant missing
A work of art by the veteran British pop artist Sir Peter Blake, best known for the Beatles' Sgt Pepper album cover, has been stolen from the Arts Club in Dover Street. The piece, a papier mache white elephant signed by Blake, was spirited away on Saturday evening at the club’s annual soiree. A poster has gone up on the club's notice board: "Anyone seen a white elephant owned by Peter Blake, please contact secretary"… Since retiring from football, former Tottenham and French International player David Ginola has worked hard to carve out a new career as a wine-maker. And yesterday, proving there is a life after soccer, Ginola was awarded a coveted silver award at the International Wine Challenge Art Fair, where his Coste Brulande Rose was praised for its “gentle strawberry flavours”. Film director Francis Ford Coppola, who has a vineyard in California, was also singled out for praise for his Diamond Collection Red Label Zinfandel…Robert Thomson, former editor of the Times, has been appointed managing editor of the Wall Street Journal, an appopintment that had been rumoured since Rupert Murdoch bought the paper… The launch of Kate Moss's new range for Topshop created a 'shopping frenzy' in London on Tuesday, with 200 of the coveted red pansy dresses being sold in the first hour-and-a-half… Senator Ted Kennedy, 76, has been diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour; his doctors said that he will remain in hospital for the next couple of days as they consider chemotherapy and radiation.
