BA considers suing Campbell for libel
After being found guilty of assaulting two police officers at Heathrow’s Terminal 5, tiresome supermodel Naomi Campbell claimed that one of the reasons she was provoked into anger was because a member of the airline staff had called her a "golliwog" during the flight. This has gone down badly with the airline's staff, who are said to be investigating whether they can sue Campbell, 38, for libel.
A source from BA told the Telegraph: "Miss Campbell didn't name the member of the cabin crew who supposedly used this racist word, but it is a serious slur against a small group of people whose identities are now well known within the airline. It seems strange Miss Campbell should only make this allegation after her case was heard because you would have thought her lawyers could have used this to go some way towards justifying the charges of assault, disorderly conduct and use of threatening, abusive words or behaviour that were brought against her.
However, the move made be thwarted by BA's management. The source adds: "The crew members have talked to lawyers and are feeling pretty gung-ho but their line managers are apparently less keen. They don't relish the idea of it going to court as it will of course resurrect the whole issue of the lost luggage that the airline would obviously now like to draw a line under."
