In brief: Paula Rego fights to save studio

Painter Paula Rego has enlisted the support of Tate Director Sir Nicholas Serota and sculptor Sir Anthony Caro to stop a new building  development in Camden that threatens to block the light in her studio. Rego, who was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1989, said: "I have been using a lot of pastels and light is all important for my art. It will affect what I can create."…London mayor Boris Johnson’s attempts to move to a £2m house in Islington have been thwarted. Another buyer came in with a higher offer...Annie Lennox, the former lead singer of the Eurythmics, has jumped on the Scottish National Party’s bandwagon and called for an independent Scotland, although she makes the proviso that her home country must adopt an eco economy first. “I think Scotland could take a stand in a wonderful way, ecologically and morally and ethically. In that way, if Scotland was to be independent, and it had that kind of vision, I would back it completely.”… Ben Affleck, the Oscar-winning actor, has become a war reporter, albeit for just one day. Affleck, 35, is currently in the Congo and will deliver a despatch on Thursday's edition of ABC television news programme NightlineBono, the leader singer of U2, has revealed that he voted "Yes" in the Irish referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. "People just don’t get Europe," he said, before warning: "Choose your enemies carefully because they’ll define you. Our enemies are things like our own indifference."…
