Jack White, lead vocalist and guitarist with the White Stripes, is upset that the theme song he's written for the new James Bond film, Quantum of Solace, has been released ahead of the movie's opening in October as a theme tune to a new Coke ad. The song, Another Way To Die, in which White sings a duet with Alicia Keys, will play over the credits for the film, which again stars Daniel Craig as secret agent 007.

Coca Cola are using an instrumental version of the song to accompany an animated James Bond in a commercial for Coke Zero (as in Zero Zero Seven). A statement issued by White's management says: "Jack White was commissioned by Sony Pictures to write a theme song for the James Bond film Quantum Of Solace, not for Coca-Cola. Any other use of the song is based on decisions made by others."

It adds in a message to fans: "We are disappointed that you first heard the song in a co-promotion for Coke Zero, rather than in its entirety."

Before enjoying critical and commercial success, White was a part-time musician in Detroit, relying on his day job as an upholsterer to make ends meet.
