London Fashion Week: Stella sexes up sport, Christopher Kane sparkles

Stella McCartney stole the show yesterday with her latest sportswear collection for Adidas modeled by Team GB Olympic medalists (pictured above). As the theme tune for Match of the Day struck up, cyclist Victoria Pendleton strolled around 'Stella’s Gym' with her gold medal accessorising slouchy, rather sexy gym attire from the spring/summer 2009 range. Gymnasts Beth Tweedie and Becky Downie modeled cutaway leotards and swimwear on the balance beam while Bryony Page and Jaime Moore somersaulted precariously on a trampoline.

Up in Dalston, fashion's golden boy Christopher Kane showed off a collection of layers and ruffles in acid colours to a backing track of Jungle Book classic, I'm the King of the Swingers. Front row guests included Erin O’Connor (give that woman a medal - and maybe a biscuit) and Harry Potter star Emma Watson.

There was plenty to celebrate last night after a peace agreement was reached over the international fashion calendar, which means that London Fashion Week will be pruned back from six to five days from September 2009, but will not be shrunk to four days, a threat which had many fearing for the future of the twice-yearly London event. Giles Deacon joined friends in W1 for the Swarovski party and Christopher Kane hosted after-show drinks at Shoreditch House.

Marie Claire magazine celebrated its 20th birthday at One Marylebone Road, with guests including Rosario Dawson, Rachel Stevens, Jaime Winston and Jo and Leah Wood. The party featured a DJ set by Sophie Ellis Bextor and live music from  Rhys Ifans' band, The Peth. ·
