Matthew Williamson bows out of Pucci with final Milan collection
Matthew Williamson said addio to Pucci on Thursday night, as his three-year-contract came to an end amid rumours that bosses at the 60-year-old label had become increasingly unhappy with the British designer’s attitude. He has been notably absent from the Florence headquarters recently, preferring to spend his time expanding his own business in the US. Pucci’s owners LMVH seemingly stayed away from Williamson’s final collection at Milan Fashion Week, with Delphine Arnault-Gancia – the daughter of LVMH chief executive Bernard Arnault, with a seat on Pucci’s board - nowhere to be seen. Williamson will be succeeded by the Norwegian designer Peter Dundas.
Meanwhile Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana staged a pyjama party as part of their second collection at Milan this week. The Dolce & Gabbana show featured silk pyjamas and kimono-style jackets, both for evening wear and work. One of the most star-studded front rows this week included Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey and his Brazilian girlfriend Camila Alves - who gave birth to their first child, a boy, seven weeks ago - and Jennifer Lopez with her husband Marc Anthony. Also present were the burlesque artist, Dita Von Teese, actress Monica Bellucci and supermodels Eva Herzigova and Claudia Schiffer (both pictured with Stefano Gabbana).
Donatella Versace closed the 50th anniversary Milan Fashion Week with a flourish, presenting a futuristic collection of tight and tiny dresses. The show also featured a series of prints of Medusa - the label’s symbol - by the British artist Julie Verhoeven, who began her career working for John Galliano. ·
