In Town: Jourdan Dunn crowned Model of Year
Move over Naomi Campbell... Jourdan Dunn, an 18-year-old who was discovered wandering around the high street shop Primark a year ago, was crowned the Model of Year at the British Fashion awards in London on Tuesday night. Dunn is photographed with the actor Christian Slater who presented her award.
Like Campbell, Dunn is an outspoken critic of the bias towards white models dominating the industry. She has said: "London is not a white city. So why should our catwalks be so white? I go to castings and see several black and Asian girls, then I get to the show and there's just me."
Among those attending the awards were Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer, Jade Jagger, Emilia Fox, Erin O'Connor and the pop singers Sophie Ellis Bextor, Roisin Murphy, and Alex James.
The awards, which were hosted by Mariella Frostrup, also honoured Luella Bartley (left), who was named Designer of the Year. A former London Evening Standard journalist, Bartley, 34, is renowned for her quirky mix of alternative cheek and Establishment chic.
Bartley is largely self-taught, only making her London Fashion Week debut in 1999 with a catwalk show entitled 'Daddy, Who Were The Clash?'.
