Did Ritchie get £50m off Madonna?

When it was revealed last month that Guy Ritchie would not be seeking a slice of Madonna's £300m fortune as part of their divorce settlement, many commentators were quick to praise him for behaving with honour. However, a report in today's London Evening Standard claims that far from walking away with nothing, Ritchie actually took close to £50m from his ex-wife.

According to a source close to Madonna, Ritchie, 40, received the couple's country estate - Ashcombe House in Wiltshire - as well as a cash lump sum. The source said: "Ritchie is getting between £40m and £47m in cash and property. The value is that big. It would be nice if somebody turned the table on this and set the record straight.

"He [Ritchie] is not like some monk running around saying he doesn't want money. You don't get money unless you ask for it. And he asked for it. This is one of the biggest celebrity divorce settlements. It is said she is being horrible to him but he is hardly poor Guy."

Meanwhile, discussions are continuing over where the couple's children - sons Rocco, 8, and David, 3, who is adopted - should live and be educated.
