George Bush sent up in new Bollywood movie
The legacy of George W Bush, who will leave the White House on January 20, looks like being dealt a further blow by a forthcoming Bollywood movie. Called The President is Coming, it uses Bush's 2006 trip to Mumbai to launch a comedy in which six young Indians compete to shake the outging President's hand. Kunaal Roy Kapur, the director, says the film is unsparing about Bush's infamous tendency for verbal gaffes at public speaking events. "Bush is more of a sort of metaphor for the things that America represents, but he's also used as a bit of a punching bag [in the film] because he's an easy target," says Kapur.
The movie, which is shot in mock documentary style, has Bush agreeing to shake the hand of one young person who represents promise for India's future – and officials at the US Consulate in Mumbai proceed to put the candidates through a battery of tests to choose a winner.
Bush has already been captured in one movie, Oliver Stone's biopic W, in which he was played by Josh Brolin. While not a comedy, it also highlighted Bush's problem with language, having him say "Guantanamero" instead of "Guantanamo" in one memorable scene. ·
