Daniel Craig snubs Jonathan Ross
Jonathan Ross is facing serious problems attracting movie stars to his BBC1 chat show, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. According to the Sunday Telegraph, Daniel Craig (pictured), who is currently promoting his World War Two movie Defiance, turned down an invitation to appear on the show because of his revulsion at the presenter's "humiliating" on-air behaviour.
It appears that the James Bond actor's snub is not because of Ross's part in the so-called 'Manuelgate' affair, but due to how he was treated the last time he was a guest on the show. "He came away quite angry from that interview," says Lizzie Cundy, who presents the programme ITV at the Movies, on which Craig has agreed to appear.
On that occasion, Ross got it into his head that the Bond star looked a lot like Sid James, the battered-faced comic actor best known for the 1960s Carry On films. Ross would not leave it alone. "I think he felt it made him look foolish,” says Cundy. “A lot of stars are saying that Ross does not treat them with respect when they come on his show. They are used to make Ross look good rather than talk about themselves."
Last week, the BBC announced the line-up for Ross's first show following his three-month suspension for leaving lewd messages on the answerphone of Andrew Sachs, the actor who played Manuel in Fawlty Towers. However, while Stephen Fry and comic Lee Evans have agreed to appear, Tom Cruise, who will be in London promoting his latest film, Valkyrie, seems to be have changed his mind.
"Tom was not aware that Ross had been suspended because of his behaviour," one of Cruise's associates told the Sunday Telegraph. "Now that Tom has been told about the phone calls he is having second thoughts."
The Sunday Telegraph further claims that Leonardo DiCaprio, promoting his film Revolutionary Road, has also said no. And his co-star, Kate Winslet, who won the Golden Globe for best actress on Sunday, has already made her feelings clear, saying she will not be interviewed by Ross because it's "all about him and not the people he invites on to his show".l ·
