Barack Obama, along with his wife, Michelle, and their daughters Malia and Sasha, attended a concert in their honour in Washington DC on Sunday. While Bono, the lead singer of U2, made a bid to steal the show by dedicating his band's song Pride (In the Name of Love) to Obama's hero Dr Martin Luther King, it was Pete Seeger, who won over the crowd with a version of Woody Guthrie's patriotic anthem This Land is Your Land, a song that even had the President-elect singing along to the lyrics. Between the songs, actors Denzel Washington, Laura Linney and Tom Hanks gave speeches that evoked past crises in US history, including the Civil War, the Depression and the Cold War............ Chesley B ‘Sully’ Sullenberger III, the hero of the Hudson river plane crash, was awarded the key to the city of New York, but said he would not receive the honour until after the inquiry into the crash has been completed............Tony Hart, the host of the BBC programme Vision On, who inspired generations of children to paint and draw, has died at the age of 83............ Tom Cruise, whose film Valkyrie, about the plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler, is released in the UK this week, claims that he grew up with thoughts about killing the war-time German leader himself. "I always wanted to kill Hitler, I hated him," he said. "As a child studying history and looking at documents, I wondered, why didn't someone stand up and try to stop it?"...........
