In brief: Danny Boyle and Kristin Scott Thomas win critics’ awards

Danny Boyle was named British director of the year at the London Film Critics' Circle Awards last night for Slumdog Millionaire, which also won best film as well as a screenwriting gong for Simon Beaufoy. Kristin Scott Thomas (pictured above with  Slumdog star, Dev Patel) won the Best British Actress of the Year prize for the French language film, I've Loved You So Long............ British singer Adele was given the benefit of the US Vogue editor Anna Wintour's style wisdom when she was putting her outfit for the Grammys, which are held this Sunday.  "It was just like The Devil Wears Prada," said the 20-year-old, who met Wintour at the magazine’s Manhattan offices before a photoshoot..............The Pope has demanded that the British Roman Catholic Bishop and Holocaust-denier, Richard Williamson, apologise for his remarks that no jews died in gas chambers during the Second World War.............. Bruce Spingsteen, who as reported here was forced to apologise to his largely blue-collar fan base for signing an exclusive distribution deal with Wal-Mart, who do not recognise trade unions, says he furious with Ticketmaster after the website redirected fans to a subsidiary charging hundreds of dollars for concert tickets............
