Tony Hadley must get fit for Spandau reunion
No one said it would be easy for a New Romantic to make a comeback. Tony Hadley, lead singer with Spandau Ballet, has been told he must lose three stone before the band reunites this summer, which will mean an intense fitness regime for the 48-year-old who has piled on the pounds since the glory days of True and other chart-topping singles.
It was announced earlier this week that the band, made up of Hadley, brothers Martin and Gary Kemp, Steve Norman and John Keeble, would "do a Take That" and reform later this year. According to reports in the Daily Telegraph, they are set to stage their reunion on board HMS Belfast, the venue on the River Thames where they first played in 1979. The only problem is that "Tony has let himself go a bit". But according to a source, he "aims to be slipping into the suits he wore in his prime".
The other members in the band aren't believed to have been delivered the same ultimatum as Hadley. The Kemp brothers have maintained the good looks that made them a hit with female fans 20 years ago. They appeared together as the notorious Kray twins in the 1990 biopic on the East End villains, with Martin going on to join EastEnders in 1998 as gangster heart-throb Steve Owen and winning sexiest male for two years running in the process.
John Keeble and Steve Norman are similarly well-groomed and have continued to pursue music careers - Keeble performs alongside a heavier Hadley in the Tony Hadley Band while Norman is in the band Cloudfish with former Bucks Fizz member Shelley Preston. ·
