Echoes of Britpop and the legendary spat between Oasis and Blur reverberated around the Brixton Academy where the NME awards were held last night. While Noel and Liam Gallagher's outfit won one award for best British band - a bit of a disappointment as they were nominated in a record seven categories - it was former Blur bandmates Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon who stole the show when they got up on stage and performed together for the first time in almost 10 years.

As fellow Blur band members Alex James and Dave Rowntree looked on from the audience, Albarn and Coxon (pictured) gave an acoustic performance of This Is A Low from their hit 1990s album Parklife. They left the stage arm in arm - a symbolic gesture, as it was the animosity between the pair that had caused the band to implode.

The pair last performed together at the Royal Festival Hall in 2000 and
Coxon left the band for good in 2003. However, Albarn recently announced they were to reform for a gig in London's Hyde Park this summer, declaring they'd decided to "bury the hatchet". Oasis did not attend the event, but given that there is no love lost between the bands - at the height of their chart rivalry Noel Gallagher famously wished Albarn would die of Aids - that was perhaps just as well. ·
