Freida Pinto and Naomi Watts at Milan Fashion Week

Attention swung from the designers to the women who wear their creations when some of the world’s most celebrated beauties, among them the actresses Naomi Watts (left), Eva Mendes, Caterina Murino and Slumgdog Millionaire’s Freida Pinto (right), attended a photographic exhibition called Extreme Beauty in Vogue in Milan on Monday night.

The event was co-hosted by the editor of US Vogue, Anna Wintour, and the Italian fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who used the occasion to launch their new make-up range. The celebrity firepower was impressive: Scarlett Johansson, who is the public face - and body - of the make-up range, was joined by Kate Hudson, Lauren Hutton and Claudia Schiffer.

Earlier, they had all been present at Dolce & Gabbana’s lunchtime fashion show, where the dresses were silk-screen-printed with images of Marilyn Monroe, classically made-up with feline black eyeliner and a glossy mouth. However, the undoubted highlight of the show was Freida Pinto, who braved the catwalk wearing a frilly white mini dress to great applause.
