Christine Kelly is Sarkozy’s new pick
Poor Rachida Dati. As if being ousted from the French government wasn't enough, the French press is now suggesting that President Nicolas Sarkozy plans to fill the gap in his government left by his glamorous former Justice Minister with an even younger, some say even better-looking woman. Christine Kelly, a 39-year-old television presenter and journalist is expected to take on the role of minister for overseas territories as well as becoming the new face of ethnic diversity in France.
The Guadeloupe-born media celebrity has a reputation for being photographed in her bikini, presents on French news channel LCI and has written books on French Prime Minister Francois Fillon and Arsenal footballer William Gallas.
A source in the French government quoted by the Daily Mail says Kelly will fill a hole in Sarkozy's supposed 'rainbow government'. "Mr Sarkozy is hugely impressed that she is not only attractive, but in touch with the modern world," says the source. "Christine has a huge fan base thanks to her regular appearances in the media, and will be a massive asset."
Kelly's selection comes after Sarkozy sacked 43-year old Dati in January before telling Rama Yade, his 31-year-old and similarly attractive human rights minister, that her job was not secure either. Yade is rumoured to have sent Sarkozy a box of heart-shaped chocolates in an effort to postpone or prevent her dismissal. ·
