Withnail & Kate: Sadie ‘plans gift for Moss’

Having just missed out on buying the farmhouse where the cult film Withnail & I was set, supermodel Kate Moss may be about to get a small souvenir of the 1987 movie, thanks to her friend Sadie Frost.

Actress Frost was among the visitors to a private view of on-set pictures of the comedy taken by photographer Murray Close, being shown at Camden's Proud Gallery. She brought two images, costing £500 and £199, and then revealed that one was a "birthday present for a friend", thought to be the Croydon clothes-horse, who celebrated her 35th birthday two months ago.

Moss is a well-known fan of the Bruce Robinson film, which stars Richard E Grant (pictured) and Paul McGann as out-of-work actors whose attempts to enjoy a break in the country go badly wrong.

The supermodel likes the film so much that her current beau, Jamie Hince from the band The Kills, apparently refers to her as 'Withnail' – no doubt a tribute to her capacity for drink – and back in January the couple were thought to be interested in buying the Cumbrian farmhouse where much of the film was set.

Frost said of the exhibition: "It's rare that you come to an art show and want to buy everything." Other fans of the film include Moss's former boyfriend Johnny Depp, Russell Brand, Noel Gallagher and Chris Evans, who in nine years ago paid £5,000 for the coat worn by Grant in the film. ·
