More indications of what sort of White House it might have been had the Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin beaten Barack Obama and Joe Biden in the November election are emerging from the white trash social circles of Juneau, the capital of Alaska.

First, Levi Johnston, the young Alaskan who nearly became Sarah Palin’s son-in-law after her daughter Bristol Palin became pregnant during the presidential election campaign, has been given the chance to have his say about his relationship with the Palin family on the Tyra Banks Show. And the self-styled "fucking redneck" used his appearance to confirm that, since he and Bristol broke off their engagement last month, he has been given little opportunity to see his four-month-old son, Tripp.

Johnston said Alaska's First Family "doesn't want me around, I don't think".  When he is allowed to see his child, his former girlfriend Bristol "won't let me take him anywhere".

In a largely monosyllabic exchange with Tyra Banks, Johnston explained how his girlfriend became pregnant - they did not always use condoms, he admitted - but suggested his potential mother-in-law shouldn’t have been surprised. "I'm pretty sure she probably knew [we were sexually active]," said Johnston. "Moms are pretty smart."

The Alaskan governor has reacted to Johnston’s comments with a stinging attack on the 18-year-old. "Bristol did not even know Levi was going on the show," reads a statement from the Palin family’s media representative. "We're disappointed that Levi and his family, in a quest for fame, attention, and fortune, are engaging in flat-out lies, gross exaggeration, and even distortion of their relationship."

The statement continues: "Bristol's focus will remain on raising Tripp, completing her education, and advocating abstinence. It is unfortunate that Levi finds it more appealing to exploit his previous relationship with Bristol than to contribute to the wellbeing of the child." The statement concludes: "Bristol realises now that she made a mistake in her relationship and is the one taking responsibility for their actions."

Levi Johnston is not the only one to cause Sarah Palin a headache: last week Diana Palin, the half-sister of Sarah's husband Todd Palin, was arrested for breaking into a home in Wasilla - famous for being the small town where Palin was once mayor - to steal money. According to the Anchorage Daily News, 35-year-old Diana Palin claimed to have mistaken the home for the house of a friend. Unfortunately, it was the second time she had tried to burgle the property in a week. ·
