A member of Germany's most successful all-girl band, No Angels, has been arrested on suspicion of infecting a partner with HIV. Nadja Benaissa, 26, is accused of having unprotected sex with three men in 2004 and 2006, knowing that she was HIV positive. One of the three men is now HIV positive, the state prosecutor in the western town of Darmstadt told reporters.

It emerged on Tuesday that Benaissa was arrested at a Frankfurt disco on Saturday night just before she was due to give a solo performance. She faces up to 10 years in jail if she is found guilty of causing dangerous bodily harm.

No Angels was formed in 2000 when the five girls won a Popstars talent competition on RTL television. The band split up in 2003 after enjoying four number one hits in Germany. In January 2007 four of the girls, including Benaissa, reformed the band. In 2008 they represented Germany in the 2008 Eurovision song contest with their single Disappear. They came last in the voting. ·
