Shane Warne and Liz Hurley: is this the end of their innings?
Twitter silence suggests that love affair between great bowler and great beauty is over
HAS the love affair between Shane Warne and Liz Hurley run its course? It was always one of the most bizarre of celebrity matches - though Russell Brand and Jemima Khan run it a close second - but now, according to the Daily Mirror, it appears to be over.
The evidence? Their silence on Twitter these past few days - and the fact that the former Australian Test criocketer is Down Under and the actress-model-beachwear designer is in Britain.
Neither of their agents will confirm the split to the Mirror - but the nature of their most recent tweets suggests the paper may not be wrong.
Shane, who retired from Test cricket in January 2007, celebrated his 44th birthday last week and tweeted thanks to friends and family - but never mentioned Liz.
And a few days earlier he had posted this cryptic message: "It's not what happens in your life, it's how you react to what life throws at u, in both the good & bad times."
For her part, Liz Hurley posted a picture of her dog, and added: "The more I know of man, the more I love my dog. Goodnight from me and Raja."
The reason the Mirror feels confident about basing its assumption on tweeting patterns is because, until recently, the couple had barely been off the social media site since they were first spotted by paparazzi kissing outside a London restaurant in December 2010.
The next minute she was suddenly an avid cricket fan and he was appearing on her arm dressed like a boy doll - the post-career paunch gone, the tousled blond locks neatly coiffed.
Hurley than announced on Twitter that her marriage to Indian businessman Arun Nayar was over. Warne similarly revealed that he and his long-suffering wife Simone had separated. And in 2011 Liz and Shane confirmed on Twitter that they were engaged.
As the Mirror says, one last tweet is now expected - confirming that they have split. ·
