Kim Jong-un seen limping at official event - video

North Koreans see an unusual display of weakness as Kim Jong-un marks grandfather's death

LAST UPDATED AT 10:32 ON Tue 8 Jul 2014

Kim Jong-un was shown walking across the stage with a prominent limp in a video released by North Korean state media.

It is very rare for state media to show their leader exhibiting signs of weakness or illness, as such appearances are often "highly choregraphed", reports Reuters.

The event was held to commemorate the death of his grandfather, Kim Il-sung, who died two decades ago.

Kim Il-sung had a visible, inoperable growth on the base of his neck which meant state television was banned from filming him from certain angles.
It is unclear how the 30-year old leader developed his limp.
