A Palestinian crouches in a building at a checkpoint just north of Jerusalem. Clashes erupted after Palestinians demonstrated in the streets to commemorate the 'nakba', or 'catastrophe'. Held annually on May 15, the day marks Israel's creation in 1948, and the consequent forced expulsion of over 700,000 Palestinians.
