A mother flees a gun-fight during a raid in the favela (slum) of Complexo do Alemao in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After days of preparation, Brazilian security forces stormed the slum where between 500 and 600 drug traffickers were holed up. Authorities are trying to clean up the city in time for the World Cup, which it is due to host in 2014.
