Israeli soldiers try to disperse Palestinian demonstrators with tear gas during a clash in the mainly Arab neighbourhood of Issawiya in east Jerusalem. The violence erupted as Hamas called for a 'day of rage' after Israel reopened a 17th-century synagogue in Jerusalem's Old City. The temple is sacred to both Jews and Muslims and has been the site of Israeli-Palestinian violence for decades.
