Alexander McQueen, 1969-2010
East Ender Alexander McQueen entered the world of fashion as a tailor in Savile Row before joing the Central St Martin's fashion school, where he was discovered by Tatler fashion editor Isabella Blow. McQueen raised eyebrows when he was made head designer at Givenchy in 1996. He described his first haute couture show (above) in 1997 as "crap".
The British fashion designer was found hanged nine days after the death of his mother
