Haiti quake
A survivor is tended to by neighbours in the densely populated capital. Among the buildings destroyed or seriously damaged was the five-storey headquarters of the UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti. The head of the mission, Hedi Annabi, and his entire staff are thought to have died. Between 200 and 250 people work at the UN building normally but because it was late afternoon, it is hoped some may have left for the day.
Hundreds feared dead in Port-au-Prince and across the country
