WINNER: Ryan Giggs was crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year last night, beating the favourite Jenson Button into second place. The most decorated player in English football history, Giggs, now 36, won his 11th Premier League title this year. He has made more than 800 appearances for Manchester United in a 19-year career. Giggs paid tribute to "the greatest manager that has ever lived" Alex Ferguson.
Jenson Button - motor racing. Odds - evens. The favourite for this year's award, Button went from rags to riches to claim the Formula One title. At the start of the year he appeared washed-up after his team, Honda, withdrew from the sport. But racing guru Ross Brawn stepped in and Button won six of the first seven Grands Prix of the season and went on to claim the ultimate prize.
