Sacrificial buffaloes await their fate in a holding pit. They are just some of the tens of thousands of animals which have been brought by devotees to the village of Bariyapur to be slaughtered, in honour of the goddess Gadhimai.
The annual slaughter of some 200,000 animals has begun in the village of Bariyapur
