Fall of the Wall: 20 years on
German Chancellor Angela Merkel walks across Boesebruecke — the first frontier checkpoint to open its gates 20 years ago. Merkel was accompanied by the Polish Solidarity leader Lech Walesa (right). They were there to retrace the first steps both she and tens of thousands of other east Germans made to the west. Mikhail Gorbachev, the last leader of the Soviet Union, also attended yesterday.
