U2 perform in front of a crowd of 10,000 outside Berlin's Brandenburg Gate to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The MTV Europe Music Awards featured a live link to the concert. MTV denied it had erected its own Berlin "wall" to keep out ticketless fans, saying the 2m-high fence was part of a "comprehensive security plan" to ensure safety.
