Kylie and co Destroy Rankin

The brief from photographer Rankin was simple enough: Destroy. Seventy musicians and visual artists - including Damien Hirst, Debbie Harry, Kylie Minogue and REM frontman Michael Stipe - who had been shot by the Dazed & Confused founder were told to "do something to the [iconic shots], something that's totally unique and original, and theirs. If they wanted to make a painting, or put targets on it, or smear paint all over themselves, or rip themselves up... it was all about giving it back so they could make a comment on themselves and that photograph at the same time."
