The Earhart enigma
After her first experience as a passenger, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly the Atlantic solo in May 1932. Earhart flew from Newfoundland to Northern Ireland in 14 hours, 56 minutes later. Her continued fame was assured when she married a publicist, George P Putnam (above right), in 1931. Her star power was such that she gave flying lessons to Hollywood starlet June Travis (above left) for her film 'Ceiling Zero' (1936).
