Telling Tales

Making sense of Delphine Balley's photographic mise en scenes is not always easy. An artful mix of fantasy and reality, each one tells a mangled story plucked from either the artist's past or someone else's. And this show intertwines two equally bizarre series of hers: the surreal family snaps of L’album de Famille and the dark, baroque tale The Adventure of Doctor Williams. The latter, with its macabre cast of characters including the Culotte sisters and three mad-haired widows, is a decadent, pseudo-Edwardian tale chronicling the life and death of an English spirit medium who invents a pill to counteract paleness. Weird doesn't even begin to cover it - you have been warned.
