Nothing Beats Reality
The cavalier title of Pierre Winther's current show, Nothing Beats Reality, has to be taken with a hefty pinch of salt, as the contents tell a slightly different story. Winther treads a fine line between hyper-realism and ludicrous whimsy, rooting each image half in the real world, while the other half is off with the fairies. After all, car crashes do happen, people do play backgammon, the police do chase after criminals - but not quite like this. Each scene is too choreographed, too cinematic, and too weird to be believed.
