Six to watch
JACK WILSHERE - ARSENAL.
Arsene Wenger is trying to dampen expectations of the 17-year-old wunderkind before the season starts, but the young striker's pre-season performances suggest he may have a job on his hands. Wilshere has just six minutes Premier League experience under his belt but has already made his England under-21 debut and is being tipped to make England's World Cup squad next summer, should they qualify for South Africa 2010. After watching him play Fabio Capello commented: "This is not normal, to be so young and so good."
Michael Owen - Manchester United
Once one of the most feared strikers in Europe, Michael Owen was left without a club at the end of last season when his contract at relegated Newcastle expired. The 29-year-old's career seemed to be in terminal decline until Sir Alex Ferguson stepped in and offered Owen an unexpected lifeline. All eyes will be on Owen this season as he tries to prove he still has the killer touch and win back his England place – if he can stay fit.
